We live in a time of an unprecedented breadth of multi-cultural offerings in art and entertainment which makes staying vibrant and relevant for any one art form especially challenging. I have always felt that trained classical musicians are better positioned to make a strong case for the relevance of great classical music to contemporary experience than anyone else.

Teaching, of course, is the most prevalent form of advocacy, but I have always been interested in expanding the reach of classical music beyond its circle of aficionados. In 2011, I joined Market Square Concerts, a nationally recognized chamber music series in Harrisburg, PA, as co-director. It has been a joy and a tremendous learning opportunity to present exceptional musicians like Midori, Ray Chen, Ann Schein, Stephen Hough, Jeremy Denk, David Shifrin, Emerson Quartet, Third Coast Percussion and many others.
My position as MSC co-director also offered me a chance to develop a robust educational outreach program “Soundscape” which ensures that thousands of K-12 age children in Central PA enjoy the same access to excellence in performing arts as their peers in large metropolitan areas. The Soundscape offerings range from educational concerts of visiting artists to masterclasses and community outreach performances of music and storytelling, as well as performances for patients, physicians and staff at the Ortenzio Cancer Center and Hershey Medical Center. It is a privilege to serve a supportive community and a loyal audience by presenting inspiring live performances.
